Leonardo DiCaprio wins an Oscar for Best actor for The Revenant.
Hollywood A-list movie star Leonardo DiCaprio has finally won his first Oscar. A lot of people believe that the award is well deserved and long overdue. Infact the 42 year old actor has been nominated for an academy award a total six times. His very first nomination came 22 years ago for best supporting actor in the 1993 movie "What's Eating Gilbert Grape"
And after six nominations, he has finally picked up his first Oscar for The Revenant; a Western Epic set in days of America's pioneer frontier men.
The undoubtedly stellar performance by DiCaprio in this gritty western had already won him the Bafta for the best actor role only two weeks ago.
Directed by Alejandro Inarritu, The Revenant won 3 Oscars out of the 12 nominations it received.
The awards were for best director for Alejandro Inarritu; (his fouth). Best cinematography for Emmanuel Lubezki, and of course; Best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio.
DiCaprio received a standing ovation as he received his award. It was one of many special moments in an award ceremony that many feared would be marred by the boycott carried out by several prominent Black Hollywood personalities.
Thanks to a groundbreaking performance by host; Comedian Chris Rock, the show turned out to be one of the most memorable in the award's 88 year history.
The Best actress award went to Brie Larson for the movie "room."
