Legendary boxer Muhammad Ali is having his toughest fight ever as he battles for his life.

The greatest has been admitted to hospital suffering from a respiratory problem and has been put on life support.

Many of his family including four of his nine children have rushed to be with him and the doctors treating the 74 year old former heavyweight champion of the world have informed the family that they fear the end is near.

Daughters Laila, Maryum and Hana are already there with their father and the rest of his children have dropped all they are doing and are on there way to the hospital in Phoenix.

Doctors continue to battle as the try to regulate Ali's breathing.

But the task is being made difficult by his Parkinson's.

Muhammad Ali who was diagnosed with Parkinson's syndrome in 1984 has fought the debilitating brain disease for three decades.

His children are intensely concerned as the doctors tell them their father's condition this time is critical.

Ali is considered the World's leading sporting icon and one of the most loved people in the world.

His last appeared in public in April 2016 looking quite frail but confident as usual.

There has been an outpouring of concern and dread as his millions of fans around the world fear that his time is indeed near.

Like during his time in the ring,  Ali displays no fear in life inspite of his dire health problems. This is what he told one of his lifelong friends.

"I’ll stay here as long as God wants me to. When my time comes I’ll have no regrets. I have achieved a lot"
