He was such a joy to watch. A devastating force
on the pitch and a nightmare to defenders.
Say the name 'Ronaldo' to any football fan in the world today, and they immediately think CR7 'Cristiano'.
But long before this, about 15-20 years ago, the name 'Ronaldo' belonged to the greatest, most exciting and most dangerous striker the world has ever seen. And his name is Ronaldo de Lima.
A mind boggling record: A World Cup winner, two Ballon d'Ors and champions League winner with incomparable pace, power, skill and a deadly finisher… the 'original' Ronaldo (as he is often unfairly referred to) remains a hero at some of Europe's biggest clubs. But the Brazilian is loved most of all by Real Madrid and her numerous fans with whom he played 127 games and scored 83 goals—the most he scored in any club during his career.
A shocking public appearance. When he was invited to be part of the Real Madrid Legends side who took on Roma at the Bernabeu on Sunday, in front of a 67,000 crowd he was looking so different from his old self it was almost sad to see.
Especially since the other invited legends like Luis Figo,Roberto Carlos,Raul and Fernando Morientes didn't look far from their younger selves.
After goals from Fernando Morientes and Luis Figo, The Real Madrid legends won 4—0.
The two time world footballer of the year played for 33 minutes.
