A mega critical and commercial success that is breaking and setting new records on its way to box office glory. The movies financial figures after a few days showing are nothing short of sensational. Black Panther earned $8.1 million at the box office on Monday. The film’s box office total now stands at $411.7 million and counting, after just 11 days. It has already surpassed the domestic box office totals of Marvel's Captain America: Civil War which earned $408 million and also shot past Iron Man 3 which saw a domestic box office gross of $409 million.
Compared to other movies in history, Black Panther now sits as the 22nd-highest grossing movie of all time in terms of domestic box office haul. It sits just behind DC's Wonder Woman.
Infact there are only two Marvel films ahead of Black Panther on that list. They are Marvel’s The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. But these records are certain to change. At the rate is going, Black Panther will almost certainly surpass Avengers: Age of Ultron, which earned a whopping $459 million domestic gross.
But judging by it popularity, It also has a good chance of surpassing The Avengers movie, which currently stands as the fifth-highest grossing movie ever at the domestic box office with $623 million.
Without a doubt, Black Panther has exceeded all expectation at the box office. The film was projected for a100 million opening weekend. It smashed the records by earning an incredible $235 million over the four-day holiday weekend.
But it wasn't done setting records. It followed that up by posting the second-best second weekend earnings of all time, pulling in $111.7 million in its second weekend showing.
It still has a chance of breaking more Early projections.Like the one that now suggests that Black Panther could have the second or third highest third weekend at the box office as well. The current top three third box office weekends belong to Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($90.2 million), Avatar ($68.5 million), and The Avengers ($55.6 million).
The Chadwick Boseman super hero hit, will face two new promising competitors at the box office this weekend. Spy thriller Red Sparrow starring Oscar winning actress Jennifer Lawrence and the remake of Charles Bronson's Death Wish. But even though their projections are good, Neither film looks good enough to dethrone Black Panther. With Red Sparrow projected to earn at most $25 million, and Death Wish in the range of $16 million.
