Celebrities and divorces have been common place as long as we can remember, but some of the most memorable one's are those where great wealth is involved, as well as the absence of a prenup. Kids in the middle of the proceedings just makes it even messier.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver his wife, may now score a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records, because the estranged couple have just crossed the 7-year mark in their divorce case. And there appears to be no end in sight.
After the action star was caught in an truly embarrassing cheating scandal, Maria filed for divorce on July 1, 2011 , after she learned her husband of 26 years had fathered a child -- Joseph Baena -- with their housekeeper.
Surprisingly and quite unusually, there was never any real custody beef ... of their 4 kids, two of the children were still minors at the time of the split-- 17-year-old Patrick and 13-year-old Christopher -- and their parents both agreed on joint custody. Well, Christopher's now 20, so there hasn't even been any more custody issues for years now.
But the property settlement presented a more uphill task.
At the time of their breakup, there was around $400 million to split. The couple, that started dating back in 1982 and got married in 1986, did not sign a prenup.
According to Sources connected to the couple, there were bumps along the way in agreeing to a settlement. But, since by law, the split is 50/50, there wasn't supposed to be any serious problems in concluding a settlement.
But sources reveal that Arnold has not shown interest in making the divorce final. As for Maria, she's sometimes pushes for a divorce, but other times she just lets it ride.
Everyone who knows them say that Arnold and Maria are never getting back together. Yet, when it comes to finalising the split they both seem reluctant to make it happen.
After seven long years, there's still a stalemate.
