Anthony Joshua targets Luis Ortiz after Jarrell Miller fight

- 2/23/2019
LUIS ORTIZ; one of the most dangerous, and certainly the most avoided heavyweights in the world, may finally get his chance at another title shot, albeit very late in a remarkable career that has seen the Southpaw lose only once. His opponent (if he defeats Jarrell Miller), will be none other than Brit Knockout specialist Anthony Joshua.

This emerged after Joshua  earmarked a potential opponent for his next fight, assuming he beats Jarrell Miller.

The unified heavyweight champion is set to make his US debut at MSG on June 1 and after that wants a big bout against either Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury.
However, it’s now looking evermore likely that their rematch could be delayed and end up taking place at the back end of 2019, leaving AJ in need of a new foe.

When asked who else he could face, Joshua told The Breakfast Club: “Once I establish myself here, then we look straight at Luis Ortiz, if Wilder or Fury aren’t ready…

“Once I get ‘Big Baby’ out of the way, if Wilder and Fury are still not interested… then I can look straight down at Luis Ortiz because that’s the next guy.

“Once I’ve broken the market in the USA, he’s a good fighter to face.”

Luis Ortiz is a (30-1) Cuban heavyweight who will turn 40 in March. He is widely regarded as one of the most skillful, dangerous fighters in the division despite his age.

Ortiz was avoided by top opposition for so long that it took until last year for him to get a world title shot.

Can Anthony Joshua avoid the near defeat Wilder suffered at the hands of Ortiz?

Deontay Wilder came through a rocky patch against the Cuban and knocked him out in the tenth round.

The WBC champion is – to this day – the only man to have beaten him.
When Ortiz is at his best, he is one of the deadliest heavyweights in the division. Just ask Deontay Wilder, who escaped by the hair of his teeth. Anthony Joshua will have to step up his game if he's going to defeat the powerful Cuban convincingly.
